FOUNDER BIO
-----------
Sergey Khalil is the founder of Utterly, a private on-device AI
transcription app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. He built the first
prototype after a hard-of-hearing student in the online language
school he runs with his wife Jordan asked for accurate live captions
during lessons — and found that no existing tool was simultaneously
private, fast, and accurate enough to help her follow conversations.
That student now says the captions changed her life; she also uses
them at her remote job.

Sergey trained as a software engineer at Codam Amsterdam (part of
École 42) while completing an MSc at the University of Amsterdam,
with a thesis internship at CWI — the Dutch national research
institute for mathematics and computer science — that resulted in a
peer-reviewed Elsevier publication on custom CNN-LSTM neural networks
for time-series forecasting. He later co-taught Python introduction
seminars at MIT with his thesis supervisor, before shipping multiple
SaaS products as co-founder of an accounting-software startup and
working as a DevOps consultant for KPN and TenneT, two of the
Netherlands' largest infrastructure operators.

Utterly is now his full-time focus at Semantic Bridge, the indie
studio he co-founded with Jordan — who is also his collaborator on
the language school that prompted the project. His expertise covers
on-device ML optimisation, applied AI, and computational linguistics;
he speaks three languages personally, Jordan speaks six.
